Global Thermal Rock Property Database – Data & Downloads

The Global Thermal Rock Property Database (GTRPD) is currently under development. The database will provide quality-controlled thermal rock property measurements together with the geological, petrophysical, methodological, and experimental metadata required for their transparent interpretation and reuse. Initial target properties include: thermal conductivity, thermal diffusivity, specific and volumetric heat capacity, radiogenic heat production and associated compositional information, and coefficient of thermal expansion.

Development status:
The database structure, metadata requirements, quality and applicability framework, and compilation workflow are currently being developed through the Global Thermal Property Compilation Project .

Have data to contribute?

Data releases

No public release of the Global Thermal Rock Property Database is currently available. The first substantial release is targeted for 2028. Future releases will be made available here together with (i) database files and machine-readable formats, (ii) persistent identifiers and recommended citations, (iii) data descriptions and database documentation, (iv) version information and release notes, and (v) quality and applicability documentation. Thermal rock property data intended for inclusion in future releases can already be contributed through the Data Submission page.

Data infrastructure

The GTRPD will be implemented within heatflow.world , the permanent research data infrastructure of the International Heat Flow Commission. The portal currently hosts the IHFC Global Heat Flow Database (GHFDB) and provides the technical basis for long-term data management, quality control, submission, access, versioning, and dissemination.
